Andy Rivera, 36, was killed around 5:33 p.m., Sunday, July 14, on Route 59 in the area of 757 Stepney Road, said Easton Police Chief Timothy Shaw.

Also, in his vehicle at the time of the accident were his 62-year-old mother, Maria, who will need two surgeries and his six-year-old daughter, Brianna, who was also injured.

The second vehicle involved was driven by a 50-year-old woman, who had two 17-year-olds in the vehicle. All three were injured.

Since his death, his family has been working to find the money to send him home to Costa Rica for burial, as he wished, said a GoFundMe page set-up to help the family.

The lost has been heartbreaking and very difficult to assimilate for his family and friends, "we have woken up the last two days wishing someone would come and say 'No, it did not happen. It was just a nightmare,'" said the GoFundMe page.

Rivera was married to Bianca Carbone Rivera and father to Randy, 11, and Brianna.

He was known by all his friends and family as hardworking, fun-loving and a great father and husband, his obituary said.

"He met every day with a joyous intensity that translated into near-constant motion," his obituary said. "He put his heart and soul into his home and his yard, upgrading, improving, repairing, day and night, weekends and holidays. And the few spare moments were shared with family, friends, and neighbors."

A service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 21, at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, in Wilton. Friends may greet his family from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Costa Rica.
